We’re All Mad Here Patch
When I started contracting, a seasoned old salt gave me this bit of insider wisdom: Your first year is a trial run; the life isn’t for everyone. If you do 2-3 years, you met your financial goal and got out while you could. Year 4 is your last chance to get out. And by your 5th year you are “institutionalized”; forever spoiled by the pay and addicted to the lifestyle. Stateside gigs will not fulfill you. Being “over there” is a need rather than a job. So we stay, even though that’s completely insane to anyone on the outside. Well, I’m halfway through my 6th year so I guess I’m a hopeless case at this point 😂. This obviously applies to way more lifestyles than military contracting, since many occupations are a “once you’re here for X amount of time, you ain’t leaving”( #hotelcalifornia ). Inspired by the Cheshire Cat’s response to Alice’s reluctance to go to the Mad Hatter, I had the bazaar in Mazar-i-sharif make a handful of patches that a few homies got, but I have since reworked the design to be a little larger, and swapped the 10/6 from the old illustrations (10 shillings & 6 pence: the cost of a hat. See 9th Pic in slide) for the skull art from the original Oh Boy Here We Go Killing Again piece to make it more fitting to the life that has made many of us mad, bonkers, completely off our heads. But I’ll tell you a secret: All the best people are.
