The statement was penned in 2020 while creating my Queen Anne’s Nightmare flag, as kind of a “hoist the black flag” battle chant. But as the situation in Afghanistan became worse, the statement started becoming more of a prophecy than a battle chant. Combining the quote with the Mad Hatter, a figure I’ve related contractors to several times, it fit perfectly. Our time as contractors is always borrowed, especially when the war’s end is near, but we’re mad enough to stay til the bitter end. Some of us only left because we had no other choice. “Borrowed Time Begins Now” is becoming a statement that applies to many things in these difficult times 🎩
